Seven Months In

Dear People,

It has been almost seven months— 156 days — since we started our circumnavigation. Not quite half way through, our journey has been astoundingly rich and full so far— too much so to recap with any coherence.  So we will just start, where we are, now.

At the time of this writing, we are on Denarau Island, Fiji. An unexpected detour to a tourist enclave teeming with Kiwi and Aussie families on winter break, Toby required some urgent medical care at a hospital in Nadi Town, the unfortunate outcome of a nasty staph infection picked up in the water at a beach party in Tonga (so we think). Suffice to say, this enforced downtime has got me to the keyboard at long last. And without these tourists, including us, such excellent medical facilities would not exist.

But before I go any further, let me zoom back out and explain why we have been so bad at this. A dear colleague of Toby’s put it rather bluntly: “man, it’s a good thing you’re not an influencer because you suck at it!” So what’s the deal?

There!

Hey, so we’ve not been as communicative as we thought we might be. This is on account of us scrambling like mad to get ourselves to Antigua, to get our boat to Antigua, and then to get everything ready for the Rally. It’s been a crazy time but we’re pretty much there at long last! In a little over twelve hours from when I’m writing this, we slip our lines, a canon will fire and we begin our adventure around the world!

After working and waiting for so long, it’s hard to believe the moment is finally here. I think many folks feel the same; the energy on the dockside is palpable! There’s so much we want to tell you about – our adventures getting here, the new friends we’ve been making, the things we’ve learned. That will have to wait for now but I did just want to give a couple links you can use to follow us at the start.

Oyster has a website tracking the Rally where you can get group updates, track all of the boats, and see pictures from Oyster’s professional photographic team.

I’m told Oyster is going to live stream the start on their Facebook page. That will be on Sunday January 14, 2024 at 13:00 AST (aka 1pm in Antigua), which is 4 hours behind the UK and 4 hours ahead of the West Coast.

Once we’re settled in to the rhythm of things, I promise we’ll start to post updates here more regularly. Until then, love from us all.

Almost There…

Panic!

It’s not quite set in. Yet. But we’re definitely feeling the edges of it.

We’re in the final bomb run, the remaining 50% of the work which has to come together in the last 5% of the time. Check out the build pictures so far in the Gallery.

And then there’s the matter of getting everything ready here to leave for 18 months…
